From Your book in the library to the Spectacle of Books

You do not know what you are reading. And that is the aim of the Spectacle of Books in Neude Library. Because that is where you discover books that nobody knows about yet.

Novels, books of poetry, life stories, children’s books and thrillers by writers who have finally found their platform. Books that have never been published before, which means that you are their first reader. Even if you are not a library member. Come to the Spectacle of Books and be surprised by the unknown. Is this an excellent opportunity for your book? Bring us your unpublished book so others can read it.

Your book in the library

The Spectacle of Books is an excellent opportunity for your unpublished book, story or manuscript. Whether it is a novel, novella, life story, thriller, graphic novel or children’s book: we will find a spot in the library for your work. Your age or where you live does not matter, we will gladly take delivery of your book. Of course, some conditions do apply.

Books can be submitted daily between 2.00 and 5.00 p.m.

Borrowing a book

Be surprised by the unknown. The books cannot wait for someone to read them. A series of surprising questions is used to lead you to books that match your mood. In the Spectacle of Books you can read how to borrow a book.Have you read the book? Please return it and leave some feedback for the writer. The book includes a return card for this purpose. We will make sure that the writer receives the feedback.

> You do not need to be a member of Utrecht Library to borrow a book.

You may borrow a maximum of 1 book per person.

Books may be borrowed during the opening hours of Neude Library.

Meet the writers

“I hope that a reader will identify with one of my poems”.

Safiya: “My book of poetry is named ‘Peeing with the door open’. Many of the poems are about love and happiness and the discomforts that we experience”.

“A voice in my head said that I was not a writer. But I succeeded anyway”.

Saïd wrote his life story: “I am quite nervous, my book has been at home for five years, and soon everyone can read it!” 

“I wrote a very silly book with lots of jokes”.

Alex: “Everything comes from my imagination. The book is named ‘Ululululu’. That is a country where something strange is going on. If you want to know what it is, you need to read the book”.

Background

Around one-and-a-half million Dutch people write, both young and old. But in the library’s bookcases, you only find stories by writers who have found their way to a publisher. The Spectacle of Books gives a platform to everyone who loves to write and has the guts to write a complete book. Where else but in a public space such as the library should those books be?
